2 questions on mh-format and scan

I am using mh 6.8, with the following setup:

version: MH 6.8 #3[UCI]  (valhalla) of Mon Jan 25 10:25:46 EST 1993
options: [ATTVIBUG] [BIND] [BSD42] [BSD43] [DBMPWD] [DUMB]
         [FOLDPROT='"0700"'] [LOCKF] [MHE] [MHRC] [MIME] [MSGID]
         [MSGPROT='"0600"'] [RENAME] [RPATHS] [SENDMTS] [SMTP] [SUN40]
         [TYPESIG=void] [VSPRINTF] [ZONEINFO]

Question 1: According to the manual, %{folder} is a valid component
for scan listings, which gives me to understand that I should see some
output for the following command:

	% scan -format "%{folder}" +inbox last

but all I get is a single blank line. Where am I going wrong?

Question 2: I am trying to coax a numeric argument to be left
justified, but to no avail. For instance, I want to output "+inbox/41"
for the 41st message in +inbox, and "+inbox/141" for the 141th with just
one mh-format. Is this possible? (easily? :-)

Thanks for any help at all,

After poring over the sources, I found out that scan.c, when calling
scan() will only pass the folder name, and hence set the %{folder}
component, if -header is specified. The fix is to remove the check for
the hdrflag variable, both when scan'ing a packf'd file, and when given
a normal folder.

If the diffs are interesting, I can post them here.

Someone pointed out that this was the default for printing out numeric
arguments, when I realised I had specified the question incompletely. I
want to be able to left justify it in a fixed width field. This
person's response was to use it as %04(num), but the leading zeroes are
yukky, even as a kluge.
