--Press any key to go on.-- in metamail 2.4

The new 2.4 version of metamail has lost some functionality
with the new "--Press any key to go on.--" prompt. 

In the previous version ^C would interrupt and (in elm)
return to message menu, but with this new prompt every
key I press will display the rest of the message.

I'd really like to see a way to quit reading the message
in the "--Press any key to go on.--" prompt. 

Accidentally I've rm'ed the old source tree, so I can't
investigate what has changed. I hope someone can.
