Looking for sh version of showexternal

Does anyone have a /bin/sh version of showexternal, the new (2.4)
version distributed with metamail has numerous problems running under
SCO Unix, and hacking a bin/sh version is much more likely to be
successfull

 This is a metamail FAQ.

In mm2.4, there are contributed sh versions of the metamail scripts
in the 'contrib' distribution. (contrib2.4.tar.Z).
I wonder why they are not the standard, given the disastrous state of
csh ?
