We had the same kind of messages from the mailer once, when everyone
tried to get mail delivered to their workstation from any other machine
on the network that remote mounted their home directory. We tried to
do this forwarding using a .forward file containing the line:
myself@my_workstation.our_net.rochester.edu
and things got confused just as you showed.
We fixed this by prepending a '\' to the lline in .forward, thus:
\myself@my_workstation.our_net.rochester.edu

I am not sure your problem is the same as ours, but it seemed worth a
shot.
