MIME and X.400

Can "Someone Who Knows" please say something about MIME<->X.400 gatewaying?
E.g.
  - is there going to be a 'standard' way to do it?
  - if so, who is working on it?
  - when will ISODE PP do it?

These are genuine questions, not criticisms. The answer "Er, we really
haven't thought about it, why don't _you_ design a scheme" would be just
as helpful as a positive answer - it's for forward planning. Thanks!

As far as I remember correctly, the working group MIME-MHS (under the OSI area
from IETF) is working on RFCs about the mapping between MIME and X.400. There
should be drafts available about that.

The 3 Internet drafts floating around on that subject are:

MIME <-> X.400(88)

- draft-ietf-mimemhs-body-equival-01 --> Mapping between X.400 and RFC-822
                                         Message Bodies

- draft-ietf-mimemhs-mapping-01      --> Exact title can't remember :-(

MIME <-> X.400(88) <-> X.400(84)

- draft-ietf-mimemhs-harpoon-00 --> Rules for downgrading messages from
                                      X.400/88 to X.400/84 when MIME
                                      content-types are present in the
                                      messages

As all the documents seem stable the MIME-MHS workgroup at the next IETF
is apparently cancelled.

You can retrieve the documents from several sources, for instance
nic.nordunet.net, directory internet-drafts.

Hope that helps

Thanks to all the people who pointed me to the IETF drafts on MIME-X.400
conversion. The next question is when ISODE PP will support it!
