Linux 1.2.3 (ELF) and 1.3.59 (patch6)
sendmail 8.7.3
I want to fine-tune the location of my sendmail logs so that they all
go into the one file, say /usr/adm/maillog.
Presently, it's all going into /usr/adm/messages, but I don't want the
mail logs to go there - sendmail creates too much clutter and I would
rather keep it all separate.
I've been trying to configure syslogd via /etc/syslog.conf to get this
to happen, but with only partial success.
In /etc/syslog.conf...
# mail logs
mail.* /usr/adm/maillog
# all info/notice logs except mail
*.=info;*.=notice;mail.none /usr/adm/messages
Originally, it looked like this:
*.=info;*.=notice /usr/adm/messages
I was getting notification of connection and then (internal) delivery,
and also of things like smtp connections with expn requests. All I'm
getting now in /usr/adm/maillog are delivery logs. :-(
For example previously I'd get things like this (apologies for the long lines):
Feb 6 18:21:07 tashi sendmail[10927]: trishul.sci.gu.edu.au [132.234.31.10]: expn tonyn
Feb 6 19:17:28 tashi sendmail[15470]: TAA15470: from=<owner-linux-kernel-outgoing@vger.rutgers.edu>, size=7969, class=-60, pri=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<Pine.LNX.3.91.960205210250.567K-200000@xarius.demon.co.uk>, proto=SMTP, relay=root@arvidsjaur.anu.edu.au [150.203.160.29]
Feb 6 19:17:31 tashi sendmail[15471]: TAA15470: to=<tonyn@sctnugen.ppp.gu.edu.au>, delay=00:00:14, xdelay=00:00:03, mailer=local, stat=Sent
All I'm getting now is the last entry.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
[Please Cc any follows... they are redirected to comp.mail.sendmail,
but it's a group I only occasionally visit. Thanks.]
Cheers
Tony
