Actually, the client sendmail file didn't have any rewrite rules which appended w M or D. The top of the client.cf file looks like: DHeos.hitc.com DReos.hitc.com Dj$w What I ended up doing was running named on the SCO rather than a resolver only (/etc/resolv.conf) and making sure the hostname wasn't being set to the fully qualified name. In /etc/tcp I modified hostname=`uname -n`.$DOMAIN to omit the .$DOMAIN. I am still unclear where the actual bug is (sendmail, dns, etc.) I didn't try compiling another sendmail. Anyway, it works for me and I didn't have to use mmdf!
