Greetings,
I've been plagued by this for months and have tried to figure this one out on
my own, but I have had no luck.
Sendmail (8.8.8) works just fine for Pine, mostly I have had no problems with
it.
However, using my Netscape 4.04 Linux, if I see some interesting news article
and try to mail the author, I always get back a message of the following type.
This is me (root@earthops.org, aliased to get me mail at klaatu@earthops.org,
with my reply-to line set to klaatu@clark.net) trying to send a test message
to klaatu@clark.net -

The only think that I can think of is that somewhere in Netscape, it's somehow
adding a backslash into the address as it passes it off to sendmail, and that
sendmail must be getting confused by that backslash (probably netscape is
using it to escape the @ sign) and thus it's thinking that everything starting
exactly one character after the @ sign is actually the start of the message
body.
Worse still, it appears to be trying to send mail to a user named <> who isn't
going to exist anywhere.
Anyone who can clear this up for me will have my profound gratitude, this has
only been making me crazy for months.
