UUCP for Macintosh?

I am looking into options for getting a small company with a network of
5-10 macs connected to the internet and would appreciate any info.

One option is to have everyone get dialup accounts (at Netcom, e.g.).
One problem is that the charges start adding up over time, and another
is that we don't get our own domain name (every gets mail at
username@netcom.com).

A second option, which is expensive to set up, is to get Microsoft Mail or
QuickMail in house, and buy a gateway like StarNine's Mail*Link which will
talk to a UUCP feed.

Now comes the part that I am fuzzier about. A modification of the first
option is to still get dialup accounts, but also to get a domain name
and have one of our computers call up and forward mail to the individual
dialup accounts. That way, we can appear to have our own domain name
to the outside world. Are there any mac uucp programs that will do
such a thing? Can the mac version of uupc do it? I saw it on sumex-aim
but don't know very much about it.

Are there any cheaper alternatives to the second option above that allow users
to read their mail over an AppleTalk network and have one computer dial
up to a UUCP feed periodically?

Finally, does anyone know anything about Eudora? I assume it requires
having personal UNIX accounts. How easy is it to get up on both ends -
mac and UNIX machine? One requirement for any setup is that people
be able to read and write mail offline and dialup to send it, so that
mail can be used on business trips without big phone bills.

If anyone has any insight into any of this, please let me know. Thanks,

Brian Sterling

Yes. There is ALWAYS a cheaper (and usually more functional) alternative to
ANYTHING Micro$oft produces.

Get uAccess, from ICE Engineering (time@ice.com for details). Does UUCP
outward and allow access to it via AppleTalk on your net. If you need
connectivity to the outside world, there IS no #2 if you're using UUCP.

Officially speaking for the a2i network, I recommend logging into its
guest menu and selecting these items:

-> 6) MENU: Feature list: Special a2i features
-> 3) Domain registration without a UUCP host
