W4W styles/templates (vs. LaTeX)

I have noted the comparisons here between W4W and LaTeX, and would
like to add my 2\cents\ worth, i.e., my wish list for W4W templates:

0. As noted by others, changing the style (or picking a new
template) should immediately change formats in a document.

1. W4W styles are per-paragraph. I want to be able to define a
style that applies, to, say, program snippets. Then I can write
   something like:
The following code is used to increment a variable:
		++var;
where _var_ is the name of the variable.
And both the indented portion and the _var_ text are in the
same typeface, size, spacing, etc. Maybe it's just the
italicized version of my default font, maybe its a courier type
of font, emboldened and increased two points in size. And if my
need changes, so does all the text with that style.

2. Templates don't nest. W4W gives you a base template (normal)
and any number of user-defined templates. What I'd like is the
ability to have a hierarchy of templates.
	Normal - i.e., global stuff
Work - glossaries of work-related terms, macros, etc.
	    Memo - template for a work-related memorandum
ManPage - template for a UNIX-style man page
	    Letter - template for a work-related letter
Personal - glossaries of personal nature, macros, etc.
Letter - template for a personal letter
Manuscript - template for the great American novel.
W4W lets you have all the 'leaf' templates in this tree, but,
for example, I use the same buzzwords in all my writing at
work. I don't want those glossaries & macros etc. in my normal
template, because they would conflict with their personal
counterparts. But I don't want to have the task of maintaining
them in all the different work-related templates. Or turn this
around: I may want to have two different templates of a memo or
a manpage, if I work on two projects each with their own glos-
saries and macros but don't want to duplicate the manpage styles
   in two separate project-related templates.
