Can you connect directly, when opening IE ?

When you select the IE (or the Netscape) program, the "connect" dialog box appears, and you have to press enter, before the modem dials up the connection - and you're on. Is it possible to avoid this "connect" dialog box - so the modem will dial up immediatly, when you select a browser program (or anything else that requires your internet dial-up connection) ??? I've set my system to auto dial up - but I still get this annoying "connect" dialog box. Of course it is a nice safety feature - so you won't dial without knowing (and getting an extra phone bill) - but I would still prefer to have a direct dial up when I select the Internet Explorer ! Can anyone help ??? Microsoft maybe ? Thanks - Peter Frank Reply to: Franks@post6.tele.dk

Sure is! Have a look on the net for a freeware program called DUNCE (which stands for Dial Up Networking Enhancement). I'm sorry i can't remember a URL but maybe someone else can post it here (hint!). Amongst other useful things it will automatically "press" the Connect button for you. ...Nick. -- Nick Challoner nickc@ladyland.demon.co.uk Aviation photographs at: http://www.ladyland.demon.co.uk "Bother" said Pooh, as he deleted his root directory.

The information is in the Microsoft Knowledge base at: http://www.microsoft.com/kb/articles/q162/8/09.htm That article indicates that if you download and install the ISDN accelerator package (which doesn't require ISDN and has a LOT of improvements for win95 DUN), there is now an option to not prompt you before making the connection.

Just go into My Computer, the open the Dial-Up Networking folder and select the connection that you wish to modify. Then go to Connections and Settings. Just select the Don't Prompt to Use Dial-Up Network radio button at the bottom. Caution! When my connection was configured this way along with my Internet Settings set to Connect to Internet as Needed, every time I booted up my machine it would start dialing out immediately! Very annoying. What was odd was that I couldn't find anything in my Start Up folder, win.ini, autoexec.bat, or config.sys file(s) that would cause this. Let me know if you experience the same problem. I just live with the "inconvenience" of having to first double-click to establish the connection. Hope this helps. I'm not sure if there is an option to do what you want. However, I have a program called rtvreco (can't remember where from - do a web search) which automatically clicks on buttons. So set it up to automatically click on the "connect" button in this dialog, and you have no more problem! -- Laurence Withers, <lwithers@lwithers.demon.co.uk> PGP key available

There is a shareware program for Windows 95 called DUNCE252
[Dial-UpNetworking Connection Enhancement], which I find very useful.
It does all the things you mention, even dials whenever your computer
demands an Internet connection, and it redials automatically if the
connection is broken. It is available from most large shareware
collections. Copy of the zipped program attached.

DO NOT NEED TO GET 3RD PARTY PRODUCTS! Just download DialUpNetwork 1.2 beta from www.microsoft.com - that's all I'm using it for a week - no bugs yet :)
