HELP needed: segment _TEXT exceeds 64 K

Hi, all!
I am currently writing a programm to convert an IDL (a programming
language for image processing) source code to a LaTeX file. It runs
on different platforms (Atari, (formerly) DOS, Linux/Unix and VMS);
main development is under VMS. Since some days (and major changes in
the source structure) the dos port is broken.
Compilation is ok, but linking fails with the error "segment _TEXT
exceeds 64 K". I tried to remove (for DOS) some parts of the code,
but the errror remains. Is there any chance to link the program or
should I abandon the DOS port?
Any help is appreciated. Answer please also by email.

Once more, someone has been been hit by the 64KB Wall of 16-Bit Messy-DOS compilers. To fix that, use a different, i.e. a 32-Bit flat-memory model compiler (judging from the other platforms in use, the DOS port of gcc, called DJGPP, is what you're looking for). All other possibilities would break the code for other platforms, or at least bring that danger with them. Hans-Bernhard Broeker (Aachen, Germany)

This is probably a problem with your memory model, that will currently allow only 64K of code. Use large model, which should be able to handle >64K code. -- Ruud van Gaal MarketGraph Visual Automation E-Mail : rvg@marketgraph.xs4all.nl DoomShell 4.5 homepage: http://www.xs4all.nl/~jwkorver "...Works fascinates me. All other Or simply change memory model in your compiler options (providing it has such an option) - the 64kB limit is in Tiny/Small/Compact only, use Medium or Large. Note: for Medium must remember pointers to code and data are not of same size, avoid converting pointer to function to void pointer and back, it causes incorrect result. Large causes all pointer to be 4-byte, as it is on other machines. [it is assuming you program in C based on group you post to] Moving to GCC/DJGPP is necessary when you hit 640kB...
