I have noticed this also.  It happens only when I play back movies directly
to the screen rather than to a window.

If this controller that appeared actually functioned I might not mind so
much.

You can get rid of it by refreshing the screen after calling the xcmd, but
it still appears briefly when the movie initially appears on the screen.

This is with the Apple QTMovie XCMD.
