MacroMind Director Ink Effects (?)

I'm writing an interactive application using check and radio boxes in MacroMind
Director.  I haven't been able to get the ink effects for the check boxes to be
background transparent so that only the box or button and the text shows.  I 
don't want to see the background of the checkbox and/or text.
