Next Meeting of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the International
Interactive Communications Society (IICS) will be:

DATE:  Tuesday, November 16 

TIME:  7-10pm       (7:00 for munchies, 7:30 for meeting start)
       Tour starting at 5pm

PLACE: Center for The Arts at Yerba Buena Gardens, San Francisco

TOPIC: Multimedia in Public Spaces

What happens when the public encounters multimedia? Find out at our
November meeting (on the third Tuesday instead of the second Tuesday,
for this month only) at the brand new Center for The Arts at Yerba
Buena GArdens.

Bill Osterhaus, President of Varitel Communications and board member
of The Center For the ARts, will present a prototype information
system which is designed to guide and inform the annual 2 million
visitors expected to pour through the Yerba Buena Gardens. Bill will
discuss how the unique marketing requirements of this venue have
driven the use of technology, rather than the other way around.

Rob Semper, Director of the Center for Media and Communications at the
San Francisco Exploratorium, will present a variety of examples of
interactive media in exhibits and discuss the issues qand
opportunities connected iwht the uses of new media technology,
including networks.

Presentations begin at 7:30 pm. Join us at 5pm for refreshments and
tours of the Center's galleries, screening room, gardens and theater.

COST: $10 for non-members, free for all members.
You may join the IICS at the door. Individual $85 for the first year
(this includes a one-time $10 processing fee), Full-time Student $40.
Includes Newsletter, monthly presentations, directory, great networking
opportunities, job hotline for members only. Meetings are held on 
the second Tuesday of every month. The hotline number (415) 252-8114 
has recorded information, 24 hours a day, about meetings, officers, etc.

DIRECTIONS: 

From the Peninsula and South Bay, take 101 north to the fourth street
exit. Turn left on third (no left turn allowed on Fourth). Go 4 blocks
to Mission and Center for the Arts will be on your left before you
cross Mission.

From the bay bridge take the fifth street exit, turn right and go
several blocks to Mission. Turn right on Mission. Center for the Arts
will be on your right at the Third Street intersection.

DECEMBER MEETING:

The IICS December meeting is our annual members' show and tell. It
will be held at the same location as last year's Holiday Showcase at
the University of San Francisco. We had about 25 exhibitors and over
400 attendees last year. You may bring in a computer and show your own
work if you are an IICS member. There is no charge for exhibiting, but
space is limited and reservations are required. Call me if you are
interested in showing your work. Mark your calendar for December 14th
if you want to see and hear the lates in multimedia while enjoying a
good party.
