Voila:

<<
Technical Requirements
Accepted Media and File Formats

To make the submission process more uniform, we only accept
contributions on data CD or data DVD. Videos may be submitted in any
file format that can be played back with a standard installation of
QuickTime 7. QuickTime supports a number of industry standard media and
file formats, so you do not necessarily need QuickTime to produce or
encode the files you are submitting. However, please test and make sure
that your files play back on a standard installation (=no additional
plugins or extensions required) of QuickTime 7 under Windows or Mac OS.

The QuickTime 7 player software is available as a free download from the
QuickTime website which also carries a list of all audio and video
formats supported by QuickTime 7:

Maybe I am not pragmatic enough and what QT offers is at least more
familiar than the Microsoft and Real stuff, but isnt that extremly
boring anyway? Think further! ;-)

There are "a number of industry standard media" called MPEG and tons of
players for those "industry standard media". Linux, FreeBSD etc..., all
excluded?

There is no established "One Click MPEG Streaming" standard yet, all we
have are Apples proprietary "One Click Streaming" solutions, but please
offer download or whatever for people who dont have Quicktime onboard.
