I just got the multimedia upgrade kit from Media Vision.
The kit contains the PAS-16 sound card and the NEC-84 cdrom drive.
I installed the card and connected it to the cdrom drive.
I have a separate Adaptec 1522 SCSI card connected to a Quantum hard disk.
When the Trantor SCSI CD driver comes up, it locates the SCSI interface
on the PAS-16. It then identifies the cdrom drive. But then
it proceeds to identifies another SSCI interface (the Adaptec
SCSI card) and hangs. I can't boot up the machine.
If I take out the Trantor driver from the CONFIG.SYS, then I
can boot up the machine with Adaptec talking to the Quantum drive and
PAS-16 with sound capability. But no cdrom.
The bottom line is I cannot use the cdrom drive I just paid
dearly for. I either get the sound capability or I can't
even boot the machine.
Any suggestion?
Have A Nice Day....

SCSI devices are designed to be daisy chained on a SINGLE SCSI controller within your PC. Since the PAS-16 seem to have the SCSI controller built in, you have to remove the Adaptec controller card and daisy chain the Quantum drive to the PAS-16 controller card. If the NEC-84 has a second SCSI socket, you should be able to plug the drive cable from the Quantum drive to the CDROM. If there is no extra SCSI connector on either the Quantum or NEC-84, you need special SCSI cable with multiple connectors. What else can go wrong??? 1. SCSI devices requires an unique device id. Your default setting on the NEC or Quantum may need to be reset. Start with the Quantum as device 0 if in doubt. You'll need to consult your manuals to locate the switches/jumpers. 2. SCSI - I implementations are not so standard across manufacturers. There is still a remote possibility that the Quantum drive may not work with the PAS-16 SCSI controller. If the PAS-16 controller seems to the the problem, see if you can disable it and run both the Quantum and NEC-84 off the Adaptec. Good luck.
