I have two notebooks, LITE25 Compaq and Zenith, both running Windows 3.1. I am looking for a sound board/CDROM for either of these computers. Any help will be appreciated. -- Dr. Tomasz Muldner, Professor, Jodrey School of Computer Science Acadia University, Wolfville, NS, Canada B0P1X0, FAX: (902) 542-4699 Internet: Tomasz.muldner@.acadiau.ca PHONEnet: (902) 542-2201x578

I recently tried out the MediaVision AudioPort on a Compaq notebook (not sure which model - it wasn't mine). Here is what I found: 1. Although they claim SoundBlaster compatibility in a DOS window, I couldn't get this to work. 2. Just to make sure it worked, I used its driver under Winodws to play a couple of standard sounds. This worked fine (although I wouldn't call this an exhaustive test of its functionality). 3. It's programmer's toolkit is somewhat thin (compared to that of the PAS or the SB) and, since it works off the parallel port, its interface looks NOTHING like those of the SB and PAS boards, with DMA, etc. Nobody has said anything to me about this, but I'm sure that they'll be supplying better tools for development sometime in the future. I guess it depends on your requirements. If you are looking for a sound board for Windows, this might work. If you are looking for SB compatibility, you may be disappointed. Creative Labs has a new product that works off the parallel port, much like this does. BTW, for my needs, we got a Compaq LITE 386/25 (I think) and its expansion box, and put a SoundBlaster right in it. Worked fine. Good Luck!
