Does anyone know of a tool to convert .wav files to whatever the mac file
format is?

Try SoundEdit 16, Brians Sound Tool or Snd Converter Pro.

Also at SoundHack, available by ftp from mills.edu. This program also
talks .au (Sun Microsystems / Mosaic standard).

BTW, the Mac file formats are:
AIFF - supported by Apple and _everybody_ else
SDII - supported by Digidesign, and converted to by SoundHack and
SoundEdit/16
snd - supported by Apple and playable from the desktop without any
additional application.
"snd" resource - embeddable in Mac documents and HyperCard stacks.

If you're on the Mac platform, you can do the conversion with:

SoundHack, available by ftp from mills.edu.

Also (commercial, and worth every penny) SoundEdit/16.

BTW, the common Mac file format is AIFF. Most Macs can also handle .snd,
or documents with embedded "snd" resources. Some can also handle "SDII"
and other proprietary formats.
