For Win95 you will need a special video card that supports two
monitors. I was just looking through my notes for the brand names of
video cards that support two monitors in Win95 - no luck.

This is not a flame, but I suggest that if you're a pro and you really
want dual monitor support, you use a Mac.

You'll get all of the Director functionality you need ('cause of course
you're taking advantage of the cross-platform capabilities of Director and
hitting the entire multimedia market, right?), and multiple monitor
support is _built in_, you just need another video card (it doesn't have
to have special dual monitor capablities, any old one will do).

I'm really surprised that this is not more common in PCs, it's an
indispensable feature that I absolutely _love_! (I really miss it when I
work on my PC). I put all of my palettes on one monitor and work on the
other one where I can see all of the screen (particularly useful for
Photoshop and Director). It's way cheaper to purchase, say, a 17" monitor
for imaging and work, and a 15" monitor for palettes, than it is to
purchase a good (or even marginally good) 21" monitor.

I'm afraid that I cannot offer any advice as to how you can get this
functionality to a PC, sorry.

Best of luck,

Chas

I'm not sure about 95, but you definitely can in NT. A couple of Matrox
Milleniums will work just fine. Matrox's documentation describes how to set it
up and NT handles it with ease.

Cheers

(great advice edited for brevity)

This doesn't quite solve his immediate problem.

You can use 3.1 with multiple monitors (well, 2 then). I remember doing
this with dir404 when young and fearless a couple of years ago.
Unfortunately, the windows opened centred between the 2 monitors and had
to be adjusted everytime you say, opened the cast or score. It was almost
more trouble than it was worth!
But maybe the world has changed since then and Dir5 remembers window
positions and sizes better.

Just a quick comment here...I have to agree completely. I do not, have not and
don't plan to use a MAC, BUT I saw a friend doing exactly this on his and I got
really jelouse. He used his new 21" as his main and his old 14(maybe 15) off
to the side to hold all his alliases (shortcuts) and stuff of that nature. I
know a few people who have upgraded thier monitors recently (myself included)
that have an extra one sitting around.
Since WIN95 seems, to be mostly a copy of MAC's OS, maybe he will put this
feature in a future version of WINDOWS.

you can run dual monitors with either matrox millenium or mystque cards
(not mixed though). It's that simple...

On my "not a modern OS" Mac I just pop in a video card and the OS handles
the rest for me. Surely the thoroughly modern Win95 OS does this
infinitley more gracefully, no?

I am a pro, and our product is currently deployed on the Mac, using 3
or 4 screens at a time with ease.
Gotta go WinTel... :-(

That really helps solving the problem, doesn't it? Any more smart remarks?

Try using WinNT 4.0 with a couple of Matrox Millenium, the manuals describe
how to handle the setup and WinNT does the rest.
