PC-Connect for VMS
VisionWare a UK based software house which specialises in the
Integration and Connectivity of PCs running Microsoft Windows with
UNIX hosts, SQL Databases (such as Ingres, Informix, Oracle, Sybase &
Interbase) and X Windows, now has a VMS version of its PC to host
Integration product called PC-Connect.
PC-Connect provides 3 basic things :
1. A Windows style desktop, from which an application can be started
by double clicking on an icon (in the conventional Microsoft way).
However the application could be either a PC application based
locally, or on a VMS or UNIX host to which the PC is connected (either
via a network - support is included for TCP/IP and transports such as
DEC Pathworks; or via an asynchronous connection such as a modem
link). These MS-Windows applications and UNIX/VMS applications can
then be displayed side by side on your PC, with facilities such as
cut-and-paste and support for DDE transfers between Windows.
2. Terminal emulation.
3. Host applications.
VisionWare has provided several applications which run on the host
platform - VMS or UNIX, such as Windows based file transfer, a
Microsoft Windows style notepad for editing UNIX and VMS files and a
Microsoft Windows style Executive which displays directory and file
structures for the UNIX/VMS host (similar to the Microsoft DOS
Executive with MS-Windows).
PC-Connect already supports most major Unix platforms such as IBM, DEC
HP, Sun, SCO. VMS has now been added to this list.
VisionWare also produces the XVision product, which is a market
leading X Windows display server for the PC running Microsoft Windows.
These products are sold through distributors worldwide and through OEM
agreements with companies such as Unisys, NCR, ICL, Wang, Siemens
Nixdorf and Data General.
