PERFORMANCE TECHNOLOGIES, INCORPORATED INTRODUCES
68040/68EC040 VMEbus SINGLE BOARD COMPUTER W/VME64 AND SCSI-2
Performance Technologies, Incorporated of Rochester, New York, U.S.A.
introduced a new high performance VMEbus Single Board Computer
platform with full support of the new VME64 operating mode at the
Buscon-East Show in mid September. The SBC module is based on a
Motorola 68040/EC040 processor and supports the Company's
comprehensive line of Add-on mezzanine I/O based options.
The Model PT-VME151 module operates the 68040/EC040 MPU at 25 MHz,
with the processor running a 4 clock access to the DRAM and supporting
"040" cache burst read cycles with 3-2-2-2 clock timing. Through the
addition of an optional SRAM plug-in module, the PT-VME151 processor
will run 2-1-1-1 clock timing which nears zero wait state
processor-memory performance. The SBC module also includes user
selected options for 1, 2, 4 or 8 MBytes of dual- ported DRAM.
An onboard SCSI port supports the new SCSI-2 "Narrow/FAST" standard
for disk and tape peripherals. The SCSI-2 function is based on the
Emulex FAS216 which includes DMA support of Synchronous SCSI rates to
10 MBytes/sec. The SCSI port also features active onboard termination
to maximize data integrity at the extended SCSI transfer rate.
Dual RS-232C Asynchronous Serial I/O ports are provided on the base
module by 68681 resident VLSI.
The PT-VME151 is the Company's FIFTH VME product to support the VME64
operating mode, which was pioneered by Performance Technologies in
1989. The module's VMEbus interface is based on a highly integrated
VME64 chip set that includes a full VMEbus controller (Slot 1
functions) and comprehensive VME Master/Slave interface for
A64/A32/A24/A16: D64(MBLT)/D32(BLT)/D32/D16/D08(E0) capability. The
VMEbus interface also includes a location monitor with message FIFOs,
programmable slave address mapping (with protection), an integral
A32:D32 Local Bus to VME DMA and VMEbus Requester, Interrupter and
Interrupt Handler.
As with all PTI 68030/68040 Single Board Computers, the PT-VME151
supports the Company's "EPAK" interface. This allows the base
module's functionality to be expanded with a wide range of I/O options
such as: High Speed (T1/E1) Serial I/O w/user selectable EIA-232/422
interface, Ethernet (AUI and Twisted Pair Support) and up to 16 ports
of Asynchronous SIO. The EPAK interface also supports user developed
functions which can be Slave, DMA or Buffered DMA I/O designs.
The module is downward compatible with the PT-VME141 (68030/ 68EC040
w/VME64) which was introduced earlier this year. The 151 is the third
member of the PTI VMEbus Single Board Computer family which includes
the PT-VME131 (030 MPU), PT-VME141 (030 MPU w/ VME64) and the
PT-VME151 (040 w/VME64). All three modules are similar in design and
allow the user to select a specific price/ performance with a high
degree of software code compatibility among all the platforms.
The PT-VME151 is fully supported by a PTI Debug/Monitor software
package and the OS-9(tm) and VxWorks(tm) Real Time Operating System.
The communication options available with the PT-VME151 "EPAK" hardware
are supported by comprehensive software packages for high speed SIO
developed in conjunction with the Company's sister communication
software division, UconX Corporation in San Diego, California.
The 68EC040 version of the PT-VME151 is priced at $2636 (qty 100) and
will begin shipment in early October 1992.
Performance Technologies designs, manufactures and markets a variety
of products for SBus, VMEbus, VERSAbus, Qbus and Multibus. The
Company has sales offices and distributors across North America and is
represented by agents and distributors throughout the world.
