WANG ADDS IMAGING POWER TO TWO NEW MODELS IN RISC SERIES

New York, NY (September 23, 1992)--Wang Laboratories, Inc. today
announced that it will market the latest RISC models from
International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) as part of Wang's
RISC Series. The POWERserver 580 is the newest of the midrange
deskside systems; the POWERserver 980 is the new high-end,
rack-mounted system.
The RISC Series is Wang's primary UNIX platform within the
company's open systems strategy. The series consists of RISC
processor models sourced from IBM under the strategic alliance
announced by Wang and IBM in 1991.
"Both the POWERserver 580 and the POWERserver 980 are high
performance systems for our mid to large-size customer installations
who are expanding their businesses," said David Goulden, Wang's vice
president of Marketing.
"In addition, Wang brings to these new POWERservers and other
members of the RISC Series its OFFICE 2000 products and services for
improving productivity in today's office. Specifically, Wang's
OPEN/image for AIX product suite allows customers to take full
advantage of these powerful new members of the Wang RISC Series."
OPEN/image for the RISC Series provides powerful image services to
applications running on AIX, IBM's UNIX operating system, and supports
RISC Series systems as image servers. It also enables customers to
use RISC servers to provide image services to applications running in
environments such as IBM CICS and IMS/DC, DEC VAX/VMS, Microsoft
Windows, and Wang's VS system.
Innovative imaging technology and other open system software
solutions for workflow, electronic mail, and application development
are the cornerstones of Wang's OFFICE 2000 strategy to help its
customers improve their productivity, quality, and service. Wang's
goal is to help its customers by offering them a choice of platforms
(VS, PC LANS, and RISC Series), services, and solutions for their
computing needs today and in the future.
"The combination of Wang's OPEN/image software and RISC Series
hardware offers customers leading imaging technology on the industry's
premier RISC processor," said Donald P. Casey, Wang's executive vice
president and chief development officer.
"The introduction of these powerful, new products by IBM coupled
with Wang's OFFICE 2000 software further validates the RISC Series as
a viable platform for delivering UNIX-based office solutions," said
Joseph M. Tucci, executive vice president, Operations. "Wang will
continue to develop and offer commercial office products like our
leading imaging technology for the RISC Series."
The price of the POWERserver 580 starts at $62,500. The
POWERserver 980
price starts at $114,500.

WANG ENHANCES CONNECTIVITY PLATFORM TO LINK UNIX SYSTEMS WITH PC LANS

New York, NY (September 23, 1992)--Wang Laboratories, Inc., today
announced a new release of its Connectivity Platform, a suite of Wang
and third-party products that allows users to concurrently access
information on a wide variety of platforms from the same PC running
the easy-to-use Microsoft Windows graphical environment. Supported
server platforms include the RISC Series, Wang's primary UNIX platform
within the company's open systems strategy, the Wang VS, and Novell
and Banyan servers.
The Connectivity Platform now supports Banyan VINES 4.11 so that
Microsoft Windows users can access their VINES applications while
running Wang's RISC Series-based OPEN/applications, such as Wang's new
imaging product, OPEN/image for AIX.
In addition, Wang today announced that NetWare for AIX/6000 has
been added to the Connectivity Platform. NetWare for AIX/6000
supports a RISC Series system as a NetWare server, and so offers
customers the convenience of a centralized server for both AIX and
NetWare.
Wang does the work of selecting the best products and ensuring
their compatibility by integration-testing them, ensuring that the
products 'plug and play.' Wang provides integration and support
services for these products on a worldwide basis.
"With the Connectivity Platform, our customers can operate in the
UNIX environment without being skilled in UNIX," said David Goulden,
Wang's vice president of Marketing.
"Our VS customers can take advantage of running multi-user server
applications, such as Wang imaging, on the RISC Series while
continuing to access the VS.
"Users don't need three or four workstations to access their
different applications," continued Goulden. "Customers can run, for
example, a RISC Series payroll application and Microsoft Word for
Windows word processing at the same time on one PC. They can use the
Wang RISC Series and the Connectivity Platform to allow UNIX systems
to interoperate and communicate with installed Novell and Banyan LANs
and Wang VS, IBM, and DEC systems concurrently from the Microsoft
Windows desktop."
The Connectivity Platform consists of the following products, from
which customers can choose those best suited for their needs.
    Third-Party Products
    * Novell's LAN WorkPlace for DOS 4.01, which provides MS-DOS and
Microsoft Windows 3.x users access to UNIX systems and other network
resources using a TCP/IP network. It is priced from $450 to $12,995,
depending on the number of users, and is the one required product in
       the platform.
