Now MKS Toolkit Plugs You Into the World November 1, 1992 (Waterloo, ON) - MKS announced today that MKS Toolkit v4.1 (DOS only) includes MKS UUCP. Now, any DOS computer - desktop or portable - can be connected to the millions of UUCP and Internet users worldwide. MKS UUCP allows mail and files to be electronically transferred - and remote commands to be executed - in the background, while users perform their daily tasks in the foreground. MKS UUCP is just one addition to the more than 170 UNIX, utilities which MKS Toolkit provides to DOS users. Other enhancements include a new awk compiler, MKS Make, and Windows icons. MKS UUCP MKS UUCP (UNIX to UNIX CP) lets DOS users communicate with other UNIX and MKS Toolkit v4.1 users. This popular UNIX communication program provides: a mail-composition editor and mail-reading facility; a uucp command that prioritizes requests to transfer or receive files; a uux command that allows command execution from a remote machine running UUCP; and the ability to create a wide range of custom applications. MKS UUCP is also extremely easy to configure - one program and one file takes care of all the configuration. AWKC Compiler A new awk compiler creates free-standing DOS (.exe) programs from a working awk program. This means that users can freely create and distribute applications, without royalties. These applications can be used independently of MKS Toolkit and MKS AWK. MKS Make MKS Make, now included in MKS Toolkit, minimizes file maintenance by allowing users to create a recipe for large or small software projects - such as software rebuilding, installation, configuration, and documentation. MKS Make automates these tasks by performing only the necessary steps. UNIX compatibility means a reduction in maintenance costs for multi-platform developers. MKS Make can be used with the most popular C compilers available for PCs. Windows Icons Frequently-used utilities, such as sh, find, vi, grep and awk, are just a click away with MKS Toolkit's Windows icons. INSTALL creates an MKS Group under Windows and builds the group each time Windows is invoked. Pricing and Availability MKS Toolkit v4.1 for DOS is available immediately for US$299. Upgrades to MKS Toolkit v4.1 are US$99. About MKS Toolkit MKS Toolkit delivers more than 170 powerful utilities, including tools for command editing and history, file processing and comparison, and text manipulation and sorting.
