I) INTRODUCTION

MKS (Mortice Kern Systems, Inc.) is pleased to announce the avai-
lability  of MKS Awk.  Awk is a versatile first language for non-
programmers, and a sophisticated data retrieval and  report  gen-
eration  tool  for  the experienced user.  Based on a sequence of
terse pattern/action rules, Awk allows you  to  manipulate  files
for retrieval, transformation, reduction, and validation of data.
MKS Awk comes with full technical and tutorial  documentation  to
speed your mastering of this 4th generation programming language.

MKS Awk runs under MS-DOS (PC-DOS) 2.0 or later releases  on  IBM
PS/2,  IBM  PC,  XT  and AT and compatibles such as AT&T 6300, HP
Vectra, Compaq 286, all Commodore  PCs,  Olivetti  M24  and  M28,
Apricot,  Tandy,  Zenith  181,  Sperry PC and IT, NCR PCs, Kaypro
2000, plus many others.  A hard disk  drive  is  recommended  for
performance  and  convenience  reasons, but is not required.  MKS
Awk, which is not copy protected,  is  shipped  on  a  DSDD  5.25
diskette.  Also included is full technical reference and tutorial
documentation.
