SAN JOSE, Calif., November 3, 1992 -- Radius Inc. (NASDAQ-RDUS) today
announced that RocketShare is now shipping in volume to customers.
RocketShare is the first advanced multiprocessing software system for
users of Macintosh computers and Radius Rocket accelerators. The
product is a powerful addition to Apple's System 7 software and allows
the simultaneous use of a Macintosh Quadra or Macintosh II family
processor, and one or more Radius Rockets, providing a true
multiprocessing, multitasking environment on the Macintosh. Radius'
RocketShare is ideally suited for applications such as high-end color
publishing, graphic and three-dimensional design. The combination of
one or more Radius Rockets and RocketShare boosts system performance
and flexibility beyond even the fastest Apple Macintosh Quadra. "The
Radius Rocket has significantly raised the paradigm for performance on
the Macintosh," said Mary Coleman, Radius vice president of marketing.
"RocketShare extends the advantages offered by this family of add-on
processors by allowing foreground/background and distributed
multi-processing. These are capabilities which were previously not
possible on this platform, which will significantly extend the use of
these systems into new as well as existing application areas."
RocketShare incorporates a subset of Macintosh system software,
licensed by Radius from Apple Computer in January, 1992, that performs
operating system functions. It is the access to this fundamental
software that allows Radius to deliver RocketShare capabilities while
providing compatibility with current and future Macintosh II and
Quadra computers. RocketShare works without modification with the new
Macintosh IIvi, IIvx, Performa 600 and the DuoDock docking station.
All Macintosh II's (except the IIsi) and Quadras are supported,
including the Macintosh IIfx. This provides the IIfx user with a
viable growth path to extend current system performance levels. Under
RocketShare, each Radius Rocket appears as an additional CPU that is
launched independently of the main Macintosh processor. The ability
to off-load any application to a Rocket CPU (running in the
"background") while the Macintosh is simultaneously used for another
task (running in the "foreground"), is a major RocketShare benefit.
For instance, one page of a color publishing layout can be edited
while a PostScript RIP rasterizes a different page in the background.
In addition to background processing, RocketShare enables the
Rocket(s) and Macintosh to divide the processing load for an
individual application. Applications using the System 7
Inter-Application Communication (IAC) capabilities will run without
modification under RocketShare. Such applications, e.g., 3-D rendering
programs, which typically distribute processing across multiple
Macintosh computers on a network will run significantly faster since
the processors are communicating over a dedicated NuBus network
instead of Ethernet or LocalTalk.

System Requirements ? Macintosh II, IIfx or Quadra series computer
with at least 4 MB of RAM ? System 7.0 or later operating system for
the Macintosh II computers ? System 7.0.1 for Macintosh Quadras and
Radius Rockets ? Radius Rocket with at least 8 MB of RAM ? At least
5 MB of disk space for each Rocket installed
