HARRIS' ADA FIRST TO COMPLY WITH NEW IEEE STANDARD

Continues commitment to open systems with POSIX 1003.5 compliance

Fort Lauderdale, Florida - September 3, 1992 - Harris Corporation's
Computer Systems Division has developed and shipped the first Ada
products to comply with the newly approved Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) standard for the Ada language
bindings (IEEE Std 1003.5-1992). This standard, known as POSIX
1003.5, defines the interface between the Ada language and the
operating system, and is part of a series of information technology
standards under development by the IEEE. Now, systems designers using
Night Hawk open architecture computers and Harris' Ada can build Ada
applications that are assured to be portable to other computer systems
running POSIX 1003.5-compliant Ada.

Jeff Hollensen, Ada Product Manager for Harris' Computer Systems
Division explained, "Everyone's Ada products adhere to the Ada
language standard by definition; but how those products interface to
the operating system has been fairly proprietary. The industry has
been meeting the basic need, but has inhibited the portability that is
the spirit of Ada. With the introduction of this new standard, the
spirit of Ada can be continued. Being the first to conform to the new
POSIX standard again demonstrates Harris' commitment to open systems
and industry standards."

Harris' implementation is a high-performance, multithreaded
implementation of the IEEE standard. This implementation demonstrates
Harris' expertise and continuing commitment to optimized Ada code
generation, real-time Ada run-time systems, and real-time operating
systems.

Harris' Ada products, which include the Harris Ada Programming Support
Environment (HAPSE) and the Ada Real-time Multiprocessing System
(ARMS), are supported on the Night Hawk family of open architecture,
multiprocessing real-time computers. Night Hawk computers range in
performance from 20 to 800 MIPS and support compatible real-time and
secure UNIX operating systems that comply with SVID, POSIX and 88open
standards.

Harris' Ada Programming Support Environment (HAPSE) has been used in
numerous United States programs including AH-1S, T45- UNTS, 20F16,
UPT, CH-53, CH-47, C-17 and Bell Helicopter 212/412. European
programs using Harris' Ada products include England's R.A.F. ANT and
Hawk I/O, Germany's EFA and France's Ariane 5. The Ada language has
been mandated by the United States Department of Defense (DoD) for use
in complex, large-scale computer-based applications.

POSIX 1003.5 is an optional feature of HAPSE and is sold separately.
Prices start at $4,000 for a single-user license. The product is
supported on the Night Hawk 4000 and 5000 series of computers running
Harris' CX/UX UNIX operating system (release 5.3 or later) and HAPSE.

Harris Computer Systems Division produces the Night Hawk family of
real-time computer systems for simulation, data acquisition and secure
computing applications. The division is part of Harris' Electronic
Systems Sector.

Harris Corporation, with annual worldwide sales of more than $3
billion, is focused on four major businesses: electronic systems,
semiconductors, communications, and Lanier Worldwide office equipment.
