PACIFIC SOFTWARE GROUP ANNOUNCES TASKMASTER FILE MANAGER
& PERSONAL PRODUCTIVITY TOOL FOR UNIX SYSTEMS
RIVERSIDE, CA (November 19, 1992)... John Rimestad, president of Pacific
Software Group, today announced the release of TaskMaster, a file management
and personal desktop productivity system for UNIX-based computers.
TaskMaster provides users with an intuitive, easy-to-use visual interface
for managing UNIX functions. By using point-and-shoot technology, users
can quickly navigate through the maze of UNIX files and functions without
learning complex UNIX commands. TaskMaster productivity tools include a
user-defined menu system, appointment calendar, to-do lists, address/phone
book, and an individual and group reminder scheduler.
TaskMaster helps users run programs; find, sort and browse files and
directories; delete and undelete files; perform backups and restores; edit
files; read and send mail between users and systems via an easy-to-use
graphical display; control print jobs; access, run commands and copy files
between remote systems; and perform a variety of utility and system
management features.
In addition to its comprehensive file and system management features,
TaskMaster brings powerful productivity tools to each user's desktop.
Hot-keys enable users to quickly access an on-line calendar for
scheduling appointments and reminders, create and prioritize to-do lists,
and display address book entries in pop-up windows while in any TaskMaster
function.
"TaskMaster has helped my employees easily track and schedule their time,
prioritize tasks and run programs without having to know or understand
anything about computers," says Hugh Hoskins, partner in Shervington
Hoskins & Company, a TaskMaster user. "It has really increased our
productivity."
"What makes TaskMaster special," say Rimestad, "is the seamless integration
of utility and productivity functions. TaskMaster provides a single
user-interface for a wide variety of functions. Once you understand the
basics -- which is a small handful of commands -- you know how to access
and use all the TaskMaster functions. That means you've leveraged your
investment in one product versus an investment in multiple alternative
products.
According to Rimestad, "What sets us apart from our competitors is that
we're written directly for the UNIX environment. Unlike those products
which are cloned from DOS, we make use of powerful UNIX tools in
TaskMaster, rather than rewriting DOS code to reinvent system functions.
We don't artificially limit the effectiveness of our features. What
we have learned from DOS is how to provide an easy-to-use visual
interface which gets people up and running fast!"
Additional TaskMaster features include a text editor, a graphical
directory tree display, real-time system status display, file export
to word processing and database programs, DOS-to-UNIX file conversion,
and context-sensitive help. Special manager features enable the system
administrator to control user access to priveleged functions.
TaskMaster for Unix, Version 1.0 is available for both monochrome and
color character-based terminals and monitors on 80386 and 80486-based
computers running SCO XENIX or SCO UNIX, on the IBM RISC System/6000
running IBM AIX Version 3, and on the IBM RT System running AIX/RT.
A 10-user license lists for $295, and a license for unlimited users
is priced at $595. Through December 31, 1992, TaskMaster is available
with a 50% special introductory discount.
