In <1992Oct8.030059.24205@unlinfo.unl.edu>, bvh@cse.unl.edu (Ben Hollingsworth) asks: > I've got a question: > > I've been thinking of subscribing to one of the ACM's graphics groups, > and was wondering what the difference was between Transactions on Graphics > (TOG) and SIGGRAPH. I know a little about SIGGRAPH, but virtually nothing > about TOG. Which one's better? Well, TOG (ACM's Transactions on Graphics) is a formal research journal, issued several times a year, and available by subscription from ACM. SIGGRAPH is an ACM special interest group that you join; your membership gets you the newsletter, Computer Graphics (which we are doing quite a lot with, so it is beginning to contain some very good expository articles -- but then I'm hardly unbiased!) as well as the Proceedings of the annual SIGGRAPH conference (45 research articles in 1992, and probably the best single graphics publication in the world (again, I'm not unbiased). Since the journal and the conference proceedings are complementary, I'd strongly suggest that anyone seriously interested in graphics should have both -- that is, should both subscribe to TOG *and* join SIGGRAPH. -- Steve Cunningham SIGGRAPH director for publications
