Incidentally, people interested in computer history should see Robert Slater's _Portraits in Silicon_. It has chapters on Babbage, Turing, von Neumann, Shannon, Zuse, Atanasoff, Mauchly & Eckert, Aiken, etc., as well as the next generations, including Shockley, Cray, and Ritchie & Thompson.
