Kent,

The method of determining what items to stock and how many is based
mostly on history and partly on "gut reaction." One goal the Store
has is to ship as little as possible back to Shrewsbury. If there was
NOTHING on the shelf at noon on Friday they would have done a perfect
job. DECUS has limited storage space in the main office and shipping
costs money, not to mention the "shelf wear" that occurs when the
handle items a lot. As for running out by Tuesday, you should understand
hat from history the Store folks can show that if its not sold
by Tuesday, it is unlikely to be sold. Most people do their Store
shopping early. Now, it may be cause and effect here but thats the
way it is.

Since I am not on the Communications Committee (the "owner" of the
Store) I should get out of the middle of this discussion. If you want
to communicate directly with the person most responsible, send e-mail
to:

		shepherd@DCS.DECUS.ORG

Mr. Shepherd is the brand new chairman of the Store sub-committee and
is therefore as close to a "manager" that the Store has.
