Hi, I have a couple of dumb questions for the dec people
out there.

Sales people are recommending some changes to the MV 4200
at my mothers work. I am a Sun Unix guy and have no clue
so I am calling on the resources of the net to educate
me.

What is a VUP? What are the advantages of a MV 3100-XX
over a MV 4200 (Other than twice the max memory)? How
much speed improvement should one expect with the only
changes being 3100-85 or 3100-96 over a 4200 same amount
of memory and disk?

What should you pay for something like a MV 3100-96?
Does $59,000.00 sound a little much?

Sorry like I said I am a Sun UNIX guy. Thanks for any
light you can shine on the subject.

 Best regards,

I'm surprised you didn't hear anything there. Did you try comp.os.vms?
Typically the real techie types watch those newsgroups.

You heard this already. Its about 1 mip (the aprox cycle time of a VAX-780)

I'm not real familar with these products anymore (I assume by mv you are
refering to microvax.) But you can go look a lot of this up directly
 using Digital's pages.

 1) follow the links to http://www.digital.com

 2) at the bottom of the box you'll notice what looks like pull down
menu choices or buttons. Click on "search"

 3) This puts you in Digital's rather extensive catalog search. Type
in what you're looking for (i.e. I tried 4200 to see what hit) and
it will return with a number of references in various papers, press
releases even their product catalog on that phrase.

I'm not sure you'll be able to find price information - but you should
be able to scrounge any technical details you're looking for
