Well, at the VERY least, IEEE owes you money and/or subscription
extension, whichever works best.

My intent was to state that my experience has been better than
that of the original author, and that none of my collegues had
such a problem.

Up until now I haven't had any reason to believe that problems
such as yours couldn't be resolved swiftly or equitably.
