Sharing SCSI tape with Mac

I am about to add an Adaptec SCSI controller and DAT tape to my Linux
configuration and would like to be able to also backup a bunch of Macs
to the same device.

Does anybody know of any way of making such a share work?
Is it possible for Linux to treat the controller card as other than
SCSI device 7?

Alternatively, does anybody know of Mac-based rmt-like software that
will talk to Linux?

Thanks very much for any advice.

Cheers, Steve.
