I presume you're talking about the newly released product for Windoze, at http://www.vocaltec.com? It compresses voice enough for conversation to be maintained over a 14.4k modem -- it should be easy to write something for Linux which does the same thing. It caused quite a storm over here, getting a review in the Sunday Times, which says BT and other long-distance providers are 'worried' about voice over IP. >> I'd appreciate any info that is available. I'll also be glad >> to put together a FAQ or How-To if someone will just give me >> a head-start... I had a look at 'mtalk', 'ztalk' and 'radio' (all from sunsite) but none of them is quite like this Windoze product. More specifically, none of them send data as it is being sampled by a soundcard. Is there a defined 'standard' for voice over IP at low data rates? (I'm not talking about 'Mbone' here -- that's out for most people). Certainly using the GSM library, it should be possible to write an equivalent fairly easily for Linux. Anyone game? I would, if I had the time...
