I am trying to setup a new Linux box by dumping a complete tar tape of an already running Linux system. I have gotten what appear to be the correct boot and root floppies from the Slackware (March 1995) distribution and the necessary commands (tar etc.) seem to work properly with my SCSI 4mm. tape drive. The problem is that when I try to do the tar dump the system almost immediately runs out of memory. My guess is that the active file system is the ramdisk. How do I change the active filesystem to the proper partition on hard disk? Some documentation indicates that there may be some LILO boot options to do this (root=/dev/sda1 ?), but my LILO does not recognize some of the suggested options. I would appreciate any help or even just some ideas on how to proceed. Thanks, Gary Whitten whitteng@clark.net
