I just enabled disk quota support in a Linux box being used in an ISP. The
machine gets constant medium to light usage mainly from the WEB cache and
the news system hitting the disk. From the time I enabled the quota system
I have been getting the following messages:
Jun 26 03:03:52 nhj kernel: VFS: dqput: trying to free free dquot
Jun 26 03:03:52 nhj kernel: VFS: device 03:03, dquot of user 1104
Jun 26 03:03:52 nhj kernel: VFS: dqput: trying to free free dquot
Jun 26 03:03:52 nhj kernel: VFS: device 03:03, dquot of user 1104
Jun 26 03:03:52 nhj kernel: VFS: dqput: trying to free free dquot
Jun 26 03:03:52 nhj kernel: VFS: device 03:03, dquot of user 1104
Jun 26 03:03:53 nhj kernel: VFS: iput: trying to free free inode
Jun 26 03:03:53 nhj kernel: VFS: device 00:00, inode 130084, mode=00100660
Jun 26 03:04:21 nhj kernel: VFS: dqput: trying to free free dquot
Jun 26 03:04:21 nhj kernel: VFS: device 03:02, dquot of group 1001
Jun 26 03:05:25 nhj kernel: VFS: dqput: trying to free free dquot
Jun 26 03:05:25 nhj kernel: VFS: device 03:03, dquot of user 1122
[chopped but continues]
Frankly it's a little worrying to get messages from the disk sub-system.
Visions of mutilated files dance in your head. Although the messages
seem to indicate that the system detected an attempt to free an already
free object which may not be harmful. Especially since it was detected.
Any ideas, anybody seen this before.
P.S. If Mr "quota maintainer" reads this, I have a couple of patches to
edquota that fixes a couple of problems with the -p option. Please put
up your hand and I'll be happy to fill you in. So far actual operation of
the system is working very well.
Thanks.
