There were chipset problems with early PCI motherboards that used ARES chipsets. The problem dealing with interupt conflicts with bus-mastering controllers like the BusLogic 946C were supposedly addresses in the Mercury and later chipsets. I can tell you that re-booting my server would often hang when the controller would start up. After a few attempts it would work. At least it did for about a year and a half. My BusLogic 946C just decided to stop working the other day. Sort of...It recognized the DOS partition on the disk but would not see my Novell partition Guess what I replaced it with... An ADAPTEC AHA-1542. Considering the time pressure I was under to get my file server back up and running it works. Its not PCI but it works. I would check to see what chip sete ASUS uses and see if it possible to get a later one. Hope this helps. Don.
