Seagate SCSI drive works "spins up" under DOS but not Linux

I have an adaptec SLIM SCSI pcmcia card, a DELL laptop Latitude
XP, and a Seagate 1480N hard drive, with an active terminator.
The drive works on the laptop with DOS with the Adaptec drivers
aspidisk.sys and aspi2dos.sys.

Using linux, the drive is "recognized", but fails to "spin up".
And hence is not usable. If I first get the drive to "spin up"
under DOS, and then reboot into linux without shutting down the
drive, then the drive works with linux. The linux pcmcia-cs
driver is aha152x_cs.

I have checked the Seagate specs for the drive (on their WWW
site), it doesn't look like their is a jumper setting to make the
drive "spin up" when it powers on. If so, I would just set it.

I should point out that the drive works on my desktop linux
system which has a future domain card in it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
