?: ASUS/Award/NCR-onboard-SCSI w/ Linux?

I have a 486 DX/2-66 system, ASUS motherboard with Award BIOS, and an
onboard NCR SCSI controller. Now that I've found a way to set up an
external port for the existing SCSI controller (thanks Ron and others
who've posted on that topic), my preference would be to use that SCSI
controller with Linux, which I'll be installing (RedHat or Slackware
distribution via CD-ROM) as soon as I get my external SCSI CD-ROM
drive hooked up (via the internal cable, if necessary).

Has anyone used this or a similar set-up with Linux, and if so, what
problems will I run into (already know about the X-windows hang-
system troubles), and how to solve them? Is the onboard NCR SCSI
controller even supported? Details:

	Award BIOS 4.5 (1-1-93 Saturn-P/I-46P3-00)

Phoenix S3-86C801/805 Gendac Enhanced VGA BIOS (version 2.13.063F03)
	Video Magic PCI-V-805 (1-28-94)

NCR SDMS (TM) V. 3.0 PCI SCSI BIOS, PCI Rev. 2.0
	NCRPCI 3.04.00

IBM DSAS 3540 SCSI hard drive (internal; 1/2 gigabyte)
Conner CFP1080S SCSI hard drive (internal; 1 gigabyte)
	AppleCD 600e SCSI CD-ROM (external; quad-speed)

        24mb RAM (2x8 + 2x4)

might add a zip drive or similar external SCSI removal-storage system.

Current operating-systems:

	MS-DOS 6.21, Windows 3.1, Windows NT

I won't really miss Windows 3.1, but it would be nice to keep DOS, and
essential to keep Windows NT; if space becomes a problem, I can always
toss on another 1-gig drive. No sound card, nor any great desire to
add one, but it would be nice to know that it's do-able, if I choose
to get one.

Comments? Help? Pity? :-)
