actually, i've never had problems with the 1.3.37 kernel, but my attempts to
move up to 1.3.7x and higher have all been terrible. My 486 was less than a
year old, and was a PnP PCI bios, so I don't think there's all that much
difference with the new one.

I actually do run stuff that won't work well with a 1.2.x kernel.

when I ran the "make config" script I was actually expecting the next
question to be "586 optimized", which is why I said "no" to 486 optimized.
the kernels i've been running for the last (almost) year have been 486
optimized.

its half decent. I'm wanting to upgrade the Mach 32 to something a bit
better. 64bit, with 2 megs of ram, but i'm a little low on cache. Getting
up to a Pentium MB was the first requirement.

A second NCR SCSI controller will possibly be next, so I can put my news
drive on a seperate SCSI bus.
