Here in comp.os.linux.misc, Marc Clayton <claytonm-ns-@almaco.com>
spake unto us, saying:
>I have a USR Courier 33.6 V.Everything connecting my linux proxy server
>through a dedicated dial-up to my ISP with another USR Courier 33.6
>V.Everything - the modems appear to be set correctly but they will only

>approaching 38400 on a good phone line day. Phone Company's GTE.
Interesting. You might want to check your COM port "lock rate" (the
speed to which your serial port is configured), since if you limit your
COM ports by setting them to 19200, the modem may default to limiting
its negotiated connections to that DTE rate.
Otherwise, 19.2kbps is pretty bad for V.34+. How are you connecting,
and can you verify your serial port settings?
