Hi, Recently, I acquired and installed an ATAPI Iomega Zip drive and have it working fine, except for one small problem: there seems to be an IRQ conflict with my modem and I'm not sure what to do. First, on booting, my BIOS reported the IRQ conflict at 3F8 (COM1). This did not prevent booting or the use of the Zip drive or the modem (if I used the modem only once per boot (!). So I changed COM1 to 3E8 in the CMOS settings after telling the kernel to use ttyS1 (instead of ttyS0) failed to let me use the modem at all. Presently, the kernel sees the modem at ttyS0 and the BIOS has COM1 at 3E8. I can use the modem as much as I please -- until I use the Zip drive. The Zip drive works fine, but is apparently still using the same IRQ as the modem anyway and won't give it up. I can reboot the machine to use the modem again, but this is really lame. I'm still pretty new to Linux, so please bear with me sounding like I don't know what I'm doing, but ... I don't! 1. How can I find out how the kernel is using the IRQ channels -- and not just the one for the modem. (I got to that only through YaST (SuSE 6.1).) 2. How can I tell the kernel to use a different IRQ for a given device? If there's some sort of IRQ "How-to" floating around out there, let me know. My efforts to find one have been fruitless. Thank you much for any help! Steve Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
