Hello. I'm just another guy with an old problem. I have installed Mandrake 8.1 on my computer - Celeron 600 MHz, Abit SL6 i815 MB, 384 MB RAM. I have a Jetway bt878 TV Tuner board (same as KWorld and Wayjet boards - if you wonder about these, they're all some Taiwan-based companies). It works just well under Windows98se. The tuner board is linked to the sound-board (Creative SB 128 PCI) via a jumper-cable that goes from the sound output of the TV Tuner to the line-in of the sound board. The sound board works, as I have sound with other apps, XMMS, media players etc. The problem is I get no sound with xawtv nor other TV tuner application - Zapper or GnomeTV, it's the same, under KDE and Gnome. I have set the card as following(some people on IRC gave me this, the most help I got on this issue yet): rmmod bttv; insmod card=34 tuner=1 card=34 means Leadtek WinTV 2000. (or something like this) I have tried a few other numbers for the card from the CARDLIST file, but none of them managed to give me a clear picture. I still have to try out the rest of them. I have managed to tune into all the stations on cable. The AUMixer is all set, with the sound source as Line In, all volumes at maximum, but I still don't get any sound. The volume control on xawtv is on, but even with it's volume up to 100%, there's not even a shadow of sound. I have heard of a 'rough' method to make this work - while under Windows, with the TV Tuner app on, just reset the computer, and when you'll start up xawtv or any other similar app, you'll get sound! Haven't got a chance to try it yet... I'm sure there's a way to get this working, through some config file, but I'm still a newbie when it comes to Linux, so I'd appreciate any help, and I'm sure I won't be the only one... Thanks.

Thanks. 1. Have you tried hitting mute (A in xawtv)? Often the mute on/off can get flipped around, and so mute is on, on is off. 2. Have you tried messing around with the insmod options for the bttv module? I had to try a fair few settings for the card option (largely as I have a rarer card), but I found one which worked perfectly for me, whereas before I had no sound. a while -- GCS/J d s+:-- a--- C++++ UL++++S+ P+ L+++(++)>+++++$ E---- W++ N+ o? I too had a problem with xawtv and Mandrake 8.1 (I got the games version, the one that comes with the Sims). I posted my problem on Mandrake Xpert: TV video worked in Mandrake 8.0, Crashes 8.1 Date 10/01 04:26 Architecture 1 : X86 MandrakeLinux Version Subcategory Question text Hello, I have a Zoltrix TV card. It uses the BTTV chipset. Specific insmod options to get it to work are "tuner type=6" and "bttv card=15". This thing actually worked when I installed Mandrake 8.0 (from Cheapbytes), so it doesn't seem to be hardware. However, now I have a full boxed set official Mandrake8.1 Sims version, which I installed, and when I try to start xawtv from it, the system freezes. The display is frozen, sound from whatever station I last had the zoltrix card set to is playing through the sound card, but X-Windows is frozen and I cannot even ping from another computer. I tried installing a more up to date kernel, 2.4.13, and I compiled a later version of xawtv, 3.62, with no success. When I started xawtv 3.62 from a command line, I did get the message: ioctl:vidiocmcapture (0,fmt-5,size=0x0):invalid argument Fooling around and experimenting, I came up with mysterious solution: I re-installed Mandrake 8.0 just to verify that xawtv worked with that, and it did. Then I re-installed 8.1, but I used a different partition for /usr, so I still had access very a special mount to the 8.0 /usr/partition, and I tried the xawtv from the mandrake 8.0 install under mandrake 8.1 and it worked! Then I tried the regular 8.1 xawtv and it worked too! What I have found is that if, after booting into mandrake 8.1, I run the old xawtv JUST ONE TIME, then I can run the new xawtv (which is better than the old version because it gets the aspect ration better). But if I don't run the old xawtv first, the new xawtv crashes the system. So something is getting set up out of order, is my guess. So, maybe you could try some experimenting along those lines. -- Replace ragwind.localdomain with rahul for a working email address
