I have an Intel EtherExpress 82557 10/100 base T Network card and its not being recognised on a Linux-2.0.30 kernel with EtherExpress 16 and EtherExpress pro options compiled in. Is there anything else I am supposed to set up/configure. The same kernel will recognise a WD 8013EP and an NE2000 clone and the rest of the network is operating fine. Daryl

I have the same card, but I don't even know how to compile those options in. Where do you start? --------------------------------------------------------------- Roger Wolfson Beta ID: 300432 Sawnose Software http://home.earthlink.net/~rogerw7979 e-mail: Rogerw7979@earthlink.net -------------------------------------------------------------- Daryl Sayers wrote in message ... >I have an Intel EtherExpress 82557 10/100 base T Network card and its not >being recognised on a Linux-2.0.30 kernel with EtherExpress 16 and >EtherExpress pro options compiled in. The driver for this board is delivered with 2.0.30 (at least it wasn't
with 2.0.29). You'll have to pick up the special 82557 driver from
Donald Becker's web page:
http://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/linux/drivers/eepro100.html
Follow the directions and it should work like a charm. It did for me
at least. By the way, this is nicely documented in the ethernet
howto.
While I'm at it, Thanks Donald for your excellent work!

Get hold of a kernel and decompress it in /usr/src cd to /usr/src/linux and run make config. Answer these questions correctly. ... Ethernet (10 or 100Mbit) (CONFIG_NET_ETHERNET) [Y/n/?] y .... Other ISA cards (CONFIG_NET_ISA) [y/N/?] y .... EtherExpress 16 support (CONFIG_EEXPRESS) [y/m/N/?] y EtherExpressPro support (CONFIG_EEXPRESS_PRO) [y/m/N/?] y Why this card is hidden in the 'Other ISA cards' is beyond me. > I have the same card, but I don't even know how to compile those options in. > Where do you start? > --------------------------------------------------------------- > Roger Wolfson > Beta ID: 300432 > Sawnose Software > http://home.earthlink.net/~rogerw7979 > e-mail: Rogerw7979@earthlink.net > -------------------------------------------------------------- > > Daryl Sayers wrote in message ... > >I have an Intel EtherExpress 82557 10/100 base T Network card and its not > >being recognised on a Linux-2.0.30 kernel with EtherExpress 16 and > >EtherExpress pro options compiled in.
