Kernel Compiling - problems

I'm having some problems re-compiling the kernel, the 2 versions I have
tried to compile are patch level 67 & 68. I have also tried compiling
this under kernel patch levels 64 & 68 (I am trying to reconfigure not
upgrade).

I have never had problems compiling before, I have tried completely
resetting the system - I have practically re-installed the entire system,
with the possible exception of the networking stuff...

I last recompiled about a week ago when I upgraded to patch level 68 and
this worked without error. Since then the only things that have changed
on the system are the introduction of proper networking (using SLIP &
Demon) and re-partitioning of the harddisc, this has moved one or two
files around, not least the /usr/src directory which now exists as
logically /homea/src and is symbolic linked from /usr/src. The only other
major change to the directory structure is the move of /usr/bin to
/homea/bin (also symbolic linked).

The only other thing that has been behaving strangly since these (minor)
changes has been some applications that use the curses libraries (aumix)
this refuses to acknowledge the default console (defined on this system
as con80x25) I have had to sym link /usr/lib/terminfo/c/con80x25 to make
this work. I don't think this has anything to do with it...

When I try and compile it crashes out with errors, it errors in various
places but most of the time this doesn't happen again if you retry the
compile. (details of errors at the end of this message)

I have one or two things left to try (patching to level 72 is the first)

If anyone has any suggestions PLEASE let me know!!!

I am about to throw this machine out the window!

Regards,

Jonathan

=========== ERRORS ENCOUNTERED DURING COMPILE ===========

This is a typical error that can be over come by trying again...

This however is the most persistant error:-
