pl14 locks up

Last night I got pl14 and did make config; make dep; make and installed
it so that LILO could boot it as new. It seemed to work perfectly for a
few minutes and then did a spontaneous cold boot. Brought it up again,
fsck'd all filesystems and all seemed ok. However when I then entered
my normal run level from init I couldn't log in - I got login prompts
but it wouldn't accept keypresses or Ctrl-Alt-Del. Also, when pl14 was
up I wasn't able to play my sound files I just got I/O error writng
/dev/audio (or some such).

So I went back to pl12, and started again, leaving out the sound stuff
and did make clean; make config; make dep; make. This one didn't work
either.

Config:
plain 0.99.pl14 kernel - changed number of tasks to 256
changed number of consoles to 256
no math emulation
no scsi
minix, xiafs, proc, msdos file systems
slip
sound (SoundBlaster 16ASP)
serial mouse
486DX33
GCC 2.4.5
libc 4.4.4

Any ideas ? Anyone else experiencing the same problem ?

Thanks,

Sorry I can't help you but I have almost an identical set up.
I compiled it last night (with gcc2.4.5) and:
  3:38pm up 21:11, 4 users, load average: 0.01, 0.02, 0.00
It's running like a dream.

Im running an alpha pl13r (I think) - it's been running fine for several
days. I used GCC 2.4.5 to compile. I have heard that GCC 2.5.5 should be
used as that fixes one "kernel" bug...

Have you tried undoing the changes to the config... 256 consoles sounds
excessive (are you refering to the virtual consoles?)

Did you install OVER the old source or in an own directory tree?
I had no problems in compiling. Maybe try the new gcc (I think 2.5.?), can be
found on the Slackware CC1/2 disks.

What the hell do you need 256 consoles(!) for!? Wow, you must have an x-large
keyboard.

Shaking my head,
