Hi all,

I know this suject has been discussed several times in c.o.l.help, but
my setup, and problem is slightly different (I think).

SLS V1.02, upgraded with gcc 2.4.5, libc (&m) 4.4.4, dip 3.2.2 (or so it
claims!)
33Mhz 386, 8 Meg RAM

I'm trying to get a slip link up between Linux and demon's server, which
I can do at the moment via dos (spit, spit...)

I did have a loopback network running before attempting this, I could ping,
ftp, etc. to my machine. Now, whatever I try to do I get network is
unreachable.

I followed the advice of the demon.help.v2 files downloaded from ftp.demon
(I hope this will ring bells with someone out there who's done the same).

As I said above, when I run dip it reports version 3.2.2. However, there
are lines in the demon.dip file that are supposed to work with this
version 'default' is one and 'get local....' something or other is the other.
(Sorry to be vauge, but no VT to switch to and check. Crappy dos!
Moan, groan!)

Running the /etc/start.dip script causes dip to run and connect with
apparantly no problem (after moding it by removing the 'default'
command and changing the others to the ones that should work before
3.2.2.

I get the CONNECTED to gate.demon.co.uk with address 158... etc OK

However, after dip has done it's stuff the command 'route add default
gw gate.demon.co.uk' gives the error 'SIOCADDRT: Network is unreachable'

I have looked in /etc/hosts, /etc/domain, /etc/networks and cann't find any
lines that are not there, that were previously (I did save my old /etc
first).

Please - there must be someone who has done this before and solved the
problem. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help,

        Rob.

I think this is the same as one of the problems I had, this is the
article that helped me round the problem :-

I didn't have the extra 'route add gate.demon.co.uk' in, after I did
insert it it cured my problem.
