Could anyone help me with this error message? (cut from /var/log/messages)

Mar 29 07:36:20 delta pppd[18344]: pppd 2.3.5 started by root, uid 0
Mar 29 07:36:20 delta pppd[18344]: Using interface ppp0
Mar 29 07:36:20 delta pppd[18344]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyp0
Mar 29 07:36:41 delta pppd[18344]: Terminating on signal 15.
Mar 29 07:36:47 delta pppd[18344]: Connection terminated.
Mar 29 07:36:47 delta pppd[18344]: Receive serial link is not 8-bit clean:
Mar 29 07:36:47 delta pppd[18344]: Problem: all had bit 7 set to 0
Mar 29 07:36:48 delta pppd[18344]: Exit.

After starting pppd from my script. (btw, the script has always worked will
in the past)
Perhaps the modem needed a reset? like a hard reset? hrmm.

Cheers, James.

I have received this in the past and it was due to my login script. Nowadays
my script is reduced simply to:
expect 'ogin:'
expect 'assword:'

Or maybe you had missed out one authentication from the remote computer, like
requesting for ppp dialup ....

Have you read the PPP HOwto? (always the first port of call...)

To whet your appetite:

18.3. The syslog says "serial line is not 8 bit clean..."

There are variations on this too - such as serial line looped back
etc., and the cause can be one (or a sequence) of a number of things.

So now you can go and read it yourself. If you don't have HOWTOs
installed on your system you can read it at the Linux Documentation
Project at www.linux.org.au
