Assignment description:
* This assignment involves the administration of an existing network of
approximately 20 recent Linux or Windows NT-4.0/2000 workstations and
several NT laptops.  The main server runs Windows NT-4.0 and a Linux server
is planned for installation.  Assignment will occasionally require hardware
installation and cable routing.
* The administrator will have to respond timely to various user requests
such as software upgrade installation, boot/network problems, virus
protection and data recovery.  Daily system checks, firewall maintenance and
backups are expected.
* Although the existing team of scientists and engineers have been
administering this network, it has taken too much time from their duties.
Therefore the individual must be totally self reliant and deal by
him/herself with typical server, network and PC problems.
* The administrator will occasionally have to write Linux scripts to
automate processes such as daily system builds, software quality
measurements and auto-regression testing.
* In addition since the team is mostly made up of scientists and engineers
we require a computer science professional with very strong C language
knowledge for occasional assistance on tough programming problems.
* Time permitting on this busy schedule the individual will be encouraged to
participate in new software development, particularly in issues involving
Linux and networking.
* System administrators must have excellent interpersonal communication
skills and strong sense of teamwork.

Ideal candidate:
* Candidate will have a successful track record administering medium sized
networks.
* Specific experience with Windows NT-4.0 Back office server, Red-Had Linux
6.2 operated as either workstation or server and CISCO Firewall.
* Again, excellent interpersonal communication skills is stressed.

Required background knowledge:
* Min. of 3 yrs experience in the Linux  and Windows PC HW/SW environment
* Experience must include design, coding, testing, and performance analysis.
* Good knowledge of at least one commercial RTOS, Unix/Linux, the use of
embedded C/C++ compilers, debugging tools, and code profilers.
* The candidate will have knowledge of software engineering and quality
standards.

Education:
* Bachelor's degree/equivalent in MIS/computer science.
* Microsoft Certified System Administration certificate.
* Linux Certified System Administration certificate.
